Alison – the emotional impact of dementia on relationships

This is Alison’s Story. MacIntyre supports Alison. She has Down’s Syndrome and a diagnosis of dementia.

Her story is one of relationships and the emotional impact that dementia can have on friendship. Alison has a really close relationship with Rachel, her  best friend who she also lives with.

In this case study you will find:

  • who Alison is
  • how she received her diagnosis of dementia
  • reflection on Alison's diagnosis by her support manager

2018 update: This case study was written in 2016, shortly before Alison passed away. Both Alison's family and MacIntyre are keen to still use this case study as an educational material. If you would like to learn about how Alison was supported through her final days please watch our film Supporting a person with dementia, their friends, family and staff through and after the final days - Registered Manager's perspective part 7.
