What is "Behaviour of Concern"
MacIntyre uses the terms behaviour of concern, distress and changed behaviour depending on the person and the situation.
MacIntyre has a team of seven specialist Lead PBS Coaches and a Head of PBS. As well as training and coaching staff, leaders and local PBS Coaches in the areas described above, these specialists at times provide intensive PBS Support for individuals. This intensive support is always person-centred and built upon MacIntyre’s foundations and values. Our specialists hold, or are working towards, a range of professional qualifications and access regular clinical supervision, coaching and training from our partner Redstone PBS. This develops their skillset in line with the PBS Academy Competency Frameworks.
The level of support from this team is agreed as part of the contract or additional support may be agreed at a later date in response to increasing levels of distress or risk. We have regular contact with teams and use a risk profile tool, data analysis and a referral system to help identify when more intensive support is needed.
Where the reasons for behaviours of concern are complex and hard to understand, our Lead PBS Coaches will work alongside the person, their team and often their family, build rapport and observe what is happening. They use behaviour analysis processes within MacIntyre’s person-centred, compassionate and trauma-informed framework. When functional assessment is used this is most frequently structured using the Prevent – Teach – Reinforce assessment process. For some people we support, a Lead PBS Coach may remain the named PBS Plan Co-ordinator throughout the time they are supported by MacIntyre and will work regularly with the person and the team around them providing regular opportunities for reflection and on-the-job coaching for staff.
