Today, 10 October, is World Mental Health Day, a global initiative to raise awareness of mental health issues and campaign for better mental health care.
In 2024, World Mental Health Day focuses on mental health in the workplace.
At MacIntyre, we know how important it is to support our staff and to provide a range of resources to help. We're proud to be a Mindful Employer.
Our aim is to build a sense of safety and inclusion for everyone by encouraging open conversations about mental health. We like to say that:
It's OK not to be OK
We provide a free employee assistance programme - Telus - for all staff. One service they offer is one-on-one support and helpline, which staff can use when feeling stressed, having sleep problems or worrying about money. This is all entirely confidential. Telus also have a range of toolkits and videos on a wide range of topics promoting wellbeing.
More recently, we've trained a group of Mental Health First Aiders from around the organisation. They are available to colleagues for those compassionate conversations that can make people feel they are not alone.
We're trying to break the stigma around mental health to create a healthier, happier, and more resilient workplace.
Resources
There are many organisations around the UK providing mental health resources, many with local groups such as Men in Sheds. Other organisations include Mind and the Mental Health Foundation.
