With the highly anticipated Dimensions Leaders Awards event next Wednesday (24 April 2024), we’re delighted to share the nominees from MacIntyre who have made the finals.
The Dimensions Leaders’ List is an annual list featuring a variety of inspiring leaders, and we’re taking this opportunity to celebrate all of our nominees; so, without further ado, we want to wish a huge congratulations to:
- Rory – Great Communities
- Russell – Great Communities
- MacIntyre’s Oliver McGowan Mandatory Training Co-Trainers
- MacIntyre Checkers Advisors
- MacIntyre Dancers
Rory – Great Communities
Rory’s nomination describes him as a young man ‘passionate about sharing his lived experience of his journey and challenges into paid employment as a Barista and the importance of volunteering in the community to help others’ and continues to inspire the next generation into paid or voluntary employment opportunities.
Rory presented his story/journey at many events across the country, including Social Care Future and with Warrington Wolves, as well as his former school, and the local learning disability employment conference for the Warrington Borough Council. He does all of this in his own time as a volunteer, around his paid job and his passion to help others in Warrington and further afield with autism and learning disabilities is an inspiration to all.
Russell – Great Communities
Russell does so much work on a voluntary basis for the local community by sharing his lived experience and knowledge to address the perception of what social care is and also work on stroke awareness. During the pandemic, Russell suffered from a stroke, thankfully making a full recovery, and now shares his experience to help spread awareness of the signs and symptoms of having a stroke.
Russell has also delivered talks as a guest speaker on his experience of living independently and in supported living sharing his knowledge of loneliness and social isolation and linking it to mental health. Russell is passionate about addressing the perception of what a support workers role is in social care and really promotes a positive and rewarding role/relationship that he has with people who support him in the house he lives in.
MacIntyre’s Oliver McGowan Mandatory Training (OMMT) Co-Trainers
The Co-Trainers are the team who co-facilitate the OMMT in learning disability and autism. Each team member, diagnosed with either a learning disability and/or a diagnosis of autism, has a unique story to tell and brings their own spin on being a trainer in such an important subject.
Each co-trainer started, right from the beginning, to understand the content and most importantly raise awareness of how people should be cared for and supported and to further prevent avoidable deaths, like Oliver's.
MacIntyre Checkers and Advisors
MacIntyre Checker Advisors review and assess documents, videos and podcasts from across MacIntyre and other organisations to ensure they can be easily understood. Then, they give their ‘C’ stamp of approval which you will see on any document that has been reviewed and assessed by the Checker Advisors.
Their dedication and hard work over the past ten years has had a profound impact, helping them with their own confidence. These professionals excel in their roles, consistently considering the perspective of others to ensure information can be understood. They now also check videos and podcasts to support more people to have the right information, extending their support to a broader audience.
MacIntyre Dancers
The MacIntyre Dancers consist of Dance Leaders and Dance Artists:
Dance Leaders – people who have qualified in the Dance Leaders training programme; Leaders play a key role in the dance sessions and events.
Dance Artists – staff who are recruited to collaborate with Dance Leaders, providing support in choreography and leading sessions.
The Leaders and Artists work together to create a welcoming and inclusive dance environment where everyone can dance, freely engage, communicate, and simply enjoy being together.
The Dancers strive to highlight the beneficial effects of dance on physical, social, and emotional well-being, particularly reaching out to those facing challenges such as long-term health conditions, illness, impairments, disability and mental health issues. Their aspiration is to support others in pursuing their dreams and ambitions, breaking free from conventional expectations to demonstrate that everyone can dance.
We are so proud of all the nominees who thoroughly deserve to be celebrated for their incredibly hard work. Keep challenging conventions and continuing to shine! We’ll have our fingers crossed next Wednesday
