The doors have just closed on the very first Soup and Chat event, and what a fantastic success it was! Held at Monkey Park, this heart-warming gathering brought together staff, volunteers, and members of the local community for a simple yet meaningful experience sharing a bowl of soup and good conversation.
The team worked seamlessly to create a welcoming space, ensuring that every visitor felt comfortable and included. From preparing the vegetables to serving the delicious soup, everyone played a part in making the event run smoothly. Gary noted how well the team communicated, while Becky was thrilled to welcome such wonderful people into the café. Lisa enjoyed the process of making the soup, and Gail appreciated the chance to chat with so many different people.
For some, the event was about more than just a meal. Carole shared a particularly touching moment with an 85-year-old visitor who hadn’t been able to leave her house for ten weeks due to an injury. If Soup and Chat had achieved nothing else, providing a warm space for her to reconnect with the community was more than enough.
The event also provided an opportunity to learn new skills. From using a stick blender to making croutons and even mastering the art of drying the dishes, everyone took something valuable from the experience.
The positive energy and feedback were undeniable. The team’s enthusiasm was so strong that they have already scheduled the next Soup and Chat for 25th February. With the chilly weather sticking around, a warm bowl of soup and a friendly chat seem like the perfect way to bring people together again.
A huge thank you to staff, volunteers, and guests who were involved and made the first Soup and Chat such a special occasion. We can’t wait to do it all again soon!
