When Savannah* joined MacIntyre No Limits in Buckinghamshire she was struggling with her anxiety. Savannah had previously attended a special needs school which made adjustments to support her, but she found getting to school on time difficult and, once there, she often felt overwhelmed.
At No Limits, the team worked with Savannah to create a programme that focused on her gifts, skills and passions, particularly drumming, in which she was particularly talented. Savannah learned new skills including cooking, practical Maths and English and taking public transport to her drumming lessons. She used art to process her feelings and the changes happening in her life and attended music therapy to support her journey.
Savannah’s confidence grew gradually. She was becoming familiar with her surroundings and built relationships with her classmates and other people.
In her second year, Savannah enrolled onto a Level 2 Music course, alongside her No Limits programme. With the support of the team, she worked on her study skills, made friends, and found ways to manage her anxiety when attending classes.
At the end of her second year at college, Savannah had grown confident enough to no longer feel the need for staff to accompany her in class, so her programme with MacIntyre No Limits finished.
Savannah went on to complete and pass a Level 3 Music course at college and subsequently enrolled in a Music Degree at university; she recently graduated with First Class honours in Music.
