One of our staff team in Bedfordshire, Abbie, noticed on the local community Facebook page that there was a Recycle and Reuse event happening in our town. The people who draw on our support in the area like to shop and also love to be part of things. They want to help others and enjoy that feeling when they have helped someone. So Abbie got in touch with the organisers and we were put on the map! The idea was that people in the town could walk to the different houses on the map to see what they were selling.
A good declutter!
Julie is a huge Dr Who and John Barrowman fan who has lots of merchandise. Julie went through her things with her support worker with a thumb up for what she wanted to keep and thumbs down for what she was happy to give away.
Ben had a lot of DVDs and was keen to sell them to raise some money for his holiday. It would also give him some room for new ones.
Aimee has lots of teddy bears, books and crafts. She noticed that her room was filling up and said she wanted to join in “so I can make some people smile”
Everyone had a great time decluttering and were feeling hopeful to get some money and also meet some people locally.
Waiting at tables
The day itself was a lot of fun with tables and a gazebo up outside and waiting for people locally to follow the interactive map and find us! We all enjoyed it so much we are now looking at doing a proper car boot sale!
What about you?
Do you have that declutter feeling this January? How can you make a difference with the things you don’t need? Reduce, Reuse, Recycle!
