Did you know it's possible to make warm blankets out of recycled crisp bags? No, nor did we, but the learners and staff at MacIntyre No Limits™ in Bedford are in the process of doing exactly that!
They had come across the idea of making survival blankets made out of recycled crisp packets for homeless people. In cold and wet weather the blankets can protect sleeping bags from getting soaked, and keep rough sleepers dry and warm.
It makes sense when you think about it. Crisp bags are made of tough, reflective, waterproof material. And they're normally single-use plastic, going straight to landfill.
The learners at No Limits wanted to do something both to address environmental concerns and to help people who are homeless.
So they've begun the crisp blanket project, forming production lines to cut, clean and dry before sewing them together.
They should be in a position to finish the project in the next few weeks, and we'll bring you that news when it comes!
Meanwhile what we want to know is: did anyone have to be bribed to eat all those crisps or were they willing volunteers? And what was everyone's favourite flavour?
