Meet Charlie, who joined MacIntyre No Limits in Buckinghamshire.
MacIntyre’s No Limits provision is an inclusive and flexible education programme for young people aged 16-25. Acting as a bridging service between school and adulthood, No Limits provides students with key skills they need to develop into more independent adults, regardless of the level of independence they may have when they join.
Charlie needs a predictable, structured routine, so No Limits had been perfect for them, and where they developed important skills, but it was clear that they were ready to move on.
Charlie’s family and the local team were thinking about what came after, and how we would be able to best support them. Understandably, Charlie’s family had a lot of questions; this was the first big change in years, and they wanted to make sure that Charlie would continue to get the right support.
After conversations with MacIntyre’s Lifelong Learning team in Milton Keynes, Charlie joined a few taster sessions where they could see what it was all about.
To make sure the move was as smooth as possible, the No Limits and Lifelong Learning teams created a springboard approach, taking things step by step.
At first, staff from Lifelong Learning spent time with Charlie at No Limits to get to know them better - learning about their routine, gifts, skills, passions, and how they could support them, while Charlie also became familiar with the new staff.
Shortly after Christmas, Charlie was ready for their full-time move into Lifelong Learning. Charlie still had the same routine, with familiar staff around them, but was now exploring new opportunities and continuing their learning in a fresh space. Charlie’s family were reassured by how smoothly things had gone; they saw how much support Charlie had every step of the way.
We’re delighted to continue to support Charlie into adulthood and can’t wait to see what the next chapter has in store.
