At MacIntyre, we are proud to provide support and encouragement that empowers people to make a tangible difference in their communities, something Ciaran from Warrington knows all about.
Last year, Ciaran discovered our Great Communities Project and since then has flourished. He has embodied the phrase 'people doing it for themselves' and with support from Peter Connor, MacIntyre's Great Communities Manager, Ciaran has attended MacIntyre's Friendship Group, as well as setting up his own successful film club, known as 'Ciaran's Autism Friendly Film Club'.
Identifying that people with learning disabilities and autism didn't have a safe, warm and welcoming area to watch films and that the cost of a cinema ticket is always rising, Ciaran was instrumental in making a change. Since then, ‘Ciaran's Autism Friendly Film Club', which shows a themed film each month, has grown considerably. As a result of this, Ciaran has continued to develop his voice to implement change in social care, by attending Social Care Futures meetings.
In recognition of his achievements, Ciaran has been nominated for the Dimensions Learning Disability and Autism Leader's List 2019, in the category of 'Local Communities'.
Well done and good luck Ciaran!
