World Teachers' Day
Today, 5 October, is World Teachers' Day. When talking about teachers and teaching assistants, we often think about traditional classrooms. At MacIntyre, our education goes well beyond the classroom.
Making learning work for everyone
At our residential school in Wingrave, we support young people aged 11 to 19 who are autistic or have learning disabilities. At the school, we believe potential is limitless and every children can and will 'Achieve Above and Beyond'.
Each child is an individual and is treated as such, with learning centred around the child's needs and preferences.
Coming to MacIntyre has allowed Jude to really be himself, kind of explore the areas of education and social life and all sorts of interactions that he wasn't able to do before, but at his own pace as well.
Alice, Jude's parent
Our post-16 education provision is MacIntyre No Limits™. Based in locations in the Midlands and South East, our vision is for all young people to gain the skills, experiences and independence they need to transition successfully into adult life.
At No Limits, we provide bespoke education packages for young people aged 16 - 24 who have a variety of additional needs. Each young person has their own specially-tailored curriculum and education takes place out in the community as well as in our college partnerships.
Our amazing educators
None of this would be possible without the contribution of the teachers and teaching assistants who make all this happen, who form close bonds with young people, and who celebrate when they go out into the world at the end of their education.
They would all say it’s not about dramatic, sweeping gestures or grand successes every day. It’s more about finding imaginative solutions that work in the moment. Whether it’s helping an autistic student stay engaged or supporting a child with additional physical disabilities get out and enjoy the natural world, our staff are constantly finding ways to make learning click.
It’s this mix of flexibility and patience that sets our education staff apart. Progress isn’t always obvious or quick, and the small wins can take time. But when they happen — whether it’s a child learning to communicate through Intensive Interaction, gaining confidence, or a young person gaining work experience — it’s a reminder that steady, consistent effort pays off.
Thank you
So thank you to all our teachers and teaching assistants. You’re creating an environment where young people feel supported, parents feel reassured, and everyone can be part of the learning process.
